Your Mind – A Battleground

One of the spiritual battles we face everyday but don’t talk about often or know about is the battle to take control of the mind. It’s so important to our spiritual wellbeing. Whoever or whatever controls your mind controls your life. In my own assessment, warfare in the mind is pivotal to every other spiritual battle you will ever fight or face. The mind is the battleground where the greatest conflicts take place.

It is important to say this: Satan does not have new tricks or schemes he can use to deceive, entrap and ruin the souls of men. He has always relied on his old tricks, the ones he has used right from the Garden of Eden… suggestive temptation! The suggestions will always seem harmless with valid options to consider. It is a daily, continuous conversation you will have and if you don’t know who you really are in Christ, you will sabotage yourself and lose the battle.

Every day, just like Jesus and Eve, you will be faced with these battles- the Lust of the Flesh (craving for physical pleasure), Lust of the Eyes (craving for everything you see) and Pride of Life (pride in your achievement and possessions).

How to Win the Battle of the Mind

Winning a battle is often emphasised more than the aftermath of the battle. A lot of people have fought and won battles but they are not the same anymore. They are wounded and injured because they got exposed and can’t stand straight anymore. You need the full armour to be fully protected.

Apostle Paul encouraged us to “put on every piece of God’s armour so we will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil,” and also added that after the battle, “you will still be standing firm.” See Ephesians 6: 10-17 for further study.

Jesus won this battle by speaking and declaring the word of God clearly and openly. I encourage you not to let off any thought that challenges God’s authority and work over your life. Challenge it back with the word of God. However, there is a problem! If you don’t know the word, you can’t speak it, declare it or apply it. Hence, winning the battle of the mind starts from reading and studying the word of God, and understanding who you truly are in Christ, irrespective of your past. As someone said, when Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future.

Remember, your mind is a battlefield. Don’t be caught unawares.
