In My Spiritual Stilettos

This is a guest blog post written by my beautiful wife, Toyin Sosanya

Some ladies reading this will agree with me that walking for long periods in a beautiful pair of stilettos on their feet can be quite physically demanding, no matter how beautiful the shoes may be. These days I don’t wear stilettos anymore because my feet’s natural arches keep collapsing day by day.

Sorry, men, you may not be able to relate to this, but ladies, cast your mind back to the last time you went to work or an event all dressed up, with your four or six-inch stilettos nicely married to those pretty feet of yours. I’m sure even men look at women and wonder how they cope with the pain of beauty.

No matter how uncomfortable those shoes may sometimes feel, there is still the pride and confidence that comes with wearing heels – the elevation, the beauty, the class, the poise …need I go on?

So I saw this nice picture that caught my attention- a couple of ladies’ heels, wedges, flats and a catch phrase ‘walk by faith’ written on the side. It made me think of ‘spiritual stilettos’.

We all have spiritual stilettos- they have a nice twist attached to them in some ways but can cause pain. I don’t know what it is for you; for me, there are some beautiful, nice-looking promises that have been made by God but to actually see them come to pass, there have been a process of pain to contend with. Sometimes we may have to get presented with a box of nice ‘spiritual stilettos’ and we may not have the option of the flat shoes (I call spiritual ‘flat shoes’ the easy or cheap ways out).

You may have nothing else but these heels to walk through life or for a season, and to walk into God’s promises and declaration upon your life. But then comes faith, which I believe every lady has in that lovely Stiletto adorning her feet as she adjusts and ‘regulates’ her feet to the shape of her heels no matter how uncomfortable they look.

Let us now walk by faith and not by sight (sight of pain, discomfort etc.). I leave you with thoughts on the Amplified bible version of  2 Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith [we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves by our conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, with trust and holy fervour; thus we walk] not by sight or appearance.
