Don’t listen to everything people say, or you might hear your servant insulting you. King Solomon
To set my thoughts for this post, I would like you to watch the above video clip from Youtube titled ‘Beat Commercial with Kevin Garnett.”
Words are powerful weapons we can use to encourage, motivate and inspire. They can also be destructive weapons when used carelessly. At some point in our lives, we must have said words we didn’t really mean. Words spoken cannot be retracted – many hearts have been wounded by careless and reckless words and comments. Today, words and comments travel fast via social media and if caution is not exercised, you could be a victim of harsh words and comments everyday. Everyone is now a journalist and has an opinion about everything.
I have had my fair share of unpleasant comments and they truly hurt, especially when they come from people close to you or those you think should have your back (harsh words from a stranger could have little or no effect on you).
Sometimes, I wish I had not heard or seen some of the things said or written about me. You will not be affected by what you don’t see or hear. This is my counsel today: hear what you want to hear. You can control what you hear, see, feel, smell or touch. You can control the five important gateways to your life. You can deliberately shut out those discouraging voices like Kevin Garnett did in the video. Not all comments and words are worth listening to. It is important for us to understand that what we say, how we say it and when we say it matters a lot. You can say a good thing in a bad way, at the wrong time and it will have a bad effect. Don’t be the one that brings or tears people down with words.
What you say about people says a lot about you. That statement has helped me in the last 2 years to streamline my friends. You don’t need people that will distract you on your journey; you need quality people that will speak life into you, chastise you when required and challenge you to go beyond and above. Those are the people you need to grant unrestricted access into your life.
