As a result of the environment where I grew up, I was conditioned to live in fear by default – the fear of the known and unknown. I was told about the survival of the fittest, the victory of the strongest and the success of the cleverest. To a large extent, this shaped my perspective on and disposition to life. Every moment, our emotions are always contending for the driver’s seat to decide what gets done, how it’s done and how we feel about it.
Emotions play a vital role in our daily decisions and actions. It is the raw energy that drives the engine of the human experience. No wonder many have been enslaved by their emotions – locked behind bars of guilt, shame, helplessness and disappointment.
The motivation for all human actions and thoughts can be traced back to one of two emotions – fear or love. These two powerful emotions control and dictate everything we do and most times we lose control. Ask yourself this question, “What’s the thought behind the thought I’m struggling with right now? What’s the controlling thought? That’s what you need to deal with, not the manifesting peripheral thought controlled by the root thought. The controlling thought is the sponsoring thought.

For the fear of being rejected, many don’t relate with others or venture into new relationships. The thought that, “I am not sociable” could be sponsored by the fact that you don’t want to be rejected! It would be a waste of time and effort trying to learn socializing skills. The thought behind the thought has not been dealt with. Dealing with the sponsoring thought should be my priority and focus instead.
