Busy Bees

“A bee is never as busy as it seems; it’s just that it can’t buzz any slower.‎” – Kim Hubbard

Bees, despite their painful stings, are generally held in high regard because of their diligence and their usefulness as pollinators. When at work, they are focused on the task at hand. The general saying, “busy bees” is a reference to their routine and diligence at work. In this day and age, everyone is busy. Too busy to have time or create time to do what’s important and essential to our wellbeing. Being busy has become a universally “acceptable” excuse for poor time management and not delivering on core priorities. The truth is, no one is ever too busy; it’s just an issue of priority. You are either doing what you are supposed to do or not. If you are working on your core priorities and goals, you are not busy, you are productive.

The truth is, no one is ever too busy; it’s just an issue of priority.

Jon Acuff, one of few minds I admire recently observed on a blog post, “Time is a squirrely thing. It only goes where you tell it to go. It has no mind of its own. It won’t naturally gravitate to things that matter or work you really care about. It always looks for the easy way out.” Time is one of the precious, expensive, yet free gifts we receive every day, but most of us squander it because it does not cost us anything initially to have. Time may cost nothing to have but may cost you everything in life if not invested wisely. Everything you need to do or achieve in life will be accomplished in time. Lao Tzu once said, “Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying ‘I don’t want to.” Within your current busy schedule, you can create extra 2 hours easily by waking up one hour earlier than your normal time, by reducing your entertainment time by one hour (watching TV, surfing the Internet and social media), by converting your travel time to productive time. The list is endless.

You can create time to do the important things you want to do this year. Let’s deal with the “busy but not productive” syndrome‎
