One of the finest moments of growing babies is when they take their first successful couple of steps after several failed attempts. It’s every parent’s joy to see their little one make the leap into their future. My daughter started walking at ten months and we were so thrilled for her. Many people were shocked when they she saw her walk down the church aisle.
That’s where big, great things start from- little baby steps like my daughter’s. Over time, you master how to walk very well, then run and eventually try different styles of movement. But being human, we all want to do or get involved in big things. We all want the feelings and accolades achieved from doing big and great things. Every big feat is a culmination of consistent little steps. As Andrew Wood observed, “Success in most things come not from some gigantic strokes of fate, but from simple, incremental progress.” Success is achieved in inches, not in giant leaps. Giant strides are hidden in little steps.
Don’t believe anyone is an overnight success. Every success you see is a combination of continuous, little efforts over time. What is referred to as ‘overnight success’ is just a change of platform, a better and bigger platform that places a greater value on what you do or offer. Your success does not happen when you are recognised or honoured (or when you become a celebrity); rather, your success begins when you consistently and diligently develop your craft. You can only be a success privately before you are acknowledged publicly. After the public acknowledgement, your self discipline is still required to upstage your feats. And this is where many struggle – not being able to surpass yesterday’s achievement.
